Due to the spread of Covid-19, West Bengal 12th exams are likely to be postponed in 2021, and discussions to hold class 10th boards are going on.

West Bengal class 12 board exams are likely to be postponed in 2021. Even class 10 exams might be postponed in 2021, informed an official. West Bengal Board of Secondary Education is scheduled to be conducting class 10 board exams (Madhyamik) in February. The class 12 board exams (Higher Secondary) is scheduled to be held in March by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

It has been reported that class 10 exams might not be conducted but class 12 exams have a higher chance of not being conducted as only a few subjects are left and the authorities would not want to put the lives of students in jeopardy.

What has been contemplated by the statements released by the officials is that the class 12 exams would be postponed until June instead of March.

West Bengal Education Minister statement

“The syllabus committee is holding discussions. Once they come up with some concrete suggestions it would be placed before the chief minister. She will take the final call. We will ensure that students are not affected in anyways,” said Partha Chatterjee, state education minister.

In 2020 around 10 lakh students appeared for the class 10 board exams while around 7.6 lakh appeared in the class 12 board exams.

Unlike other states, schools in West Bengal are not getting re-opened due to the Covid-19 spread. Earlier, the chief minister of state Mamata Banerjee had informed that the schools would reopen from September 5, however, the schools are shut till September 30.
