Mercedes-EQ will unveil the all-electric compact EQB SUV on April 18, on the eve of the first press day of Auto Shanghai 2021. In addition to the EQB world premiere, the EQS electric sedan will also make its Asian premiere. Among other things, the EQB will set a new standard in the electric compact class with its flexible space, and offers room for up to seven passengers or a maximum of 1,700-litres of luggage. After the market launch in China, the European version of the EQB will follow later this year and will also be available on the U.S. market in 2022.

While Mercedes' first all-electric model, the EQC, is based on the EVA I platform, the smaller EQA and EQB will be built around the EVA II chassis. The battery of the EQB will deliver 60kWh in the standard configuration but can be scaled up to 110kWh. The 650kg package will be mounted between the front and rear axle. It will power a 150kW electric motor and return a minimum of 400km in the base version.

More powerful units with 200 and 250kW will be available later. Mercedes has already registered the EQB 200, EQB 250, EQB 260, EQB 300, EQB 320, EQB 350 and EQB 360 names. Design-wise, the EQB will be close to the edgy GLB, though featuring the new EQ grille and rear as seen in the EQC. While the combustion-engine GLB is available for around 35,000 euros (Rs 31.27 lakh), the all-electric EQ B will wear price tags with 50,000 euros (Rs 44.67 lakh) or more.
