India suffered an injury scare as opener Shubman Gill did not take the field on Day 4 of the 2nd Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Gill was taken for scans on Tuesday after he suffered a blow to his left forearm while fielding on Day 3.

“Shubman Gill sustained a blow on his left forearm while fielding on Day 3 of the 2nd Test. He has been taken for a precautionary scan. The BCCI medical team is assessing him. He won’t be fielding today,” the BCCI said in a statement on Tuesday.

Gill suffered the blow late in Day 3 after India had set England a target of 482 runs. Gill was hit on his forearm when fielding at short-leg as England batsman Daniel Lawrence attempted a sweep shot that crashed straight into Gill against the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin.

This is the second injury concern for India in the ongoing Test as Cheteshwar Pujara did not take the field on Day 2 of the 2nd Test after suffering a niggle. However, the star India batsman came out to bat during India’s 2nd innings and has been on the field for the final innings. Pujara was hit on his fingers while batting on Day 1.

India have been marred by injury concerns since the start of the Australia tour. India kept losing players to injury during the 4-Test series in Australia which they managed to win 2-1. In the exciting series finale in Brisbane, India did not have their entire first-choice bowling attack for the Gabba Test but they managed to breach the Australia fortress by gunning down a record total of 338 in the final innings.

India are without Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja for the ongoing series due to injuries picked from the Australia tour. Shami and Umesh started to bowl at the National Cricket Academy while Jadeja has been ruled out of the entire Test series.
