The new BMW i4 model is in line with the German carmaker's global strategy to have 12 pure EVs on sale worldwide by 2023, with an electric option available in 90 per cent of its current products.

the BMW Group Annual Conference, BMW showcased its near-production first-ever all-electric BMW i4 4-door Gran Coupe which will enter the market during the coming months. Apart from this, the company will also reveal a BMW M Performance model later this year, which will join the ranks of the BMW i3 electric hatchback, new BMW iX3 mid-sized SUV, and the BMW iX flagship. The new model is in line with the German carmaker's global strategy to have 12 pure EVs on sale worldwide by 2023, with an electric option available in 90 per cent of its current products.

The BMW i4 model line will be available in different versions covering ranges of up to 590km in the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle and up to 482km in the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cycle. With a power output of up to 530bhp, the BMW i4 can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in around 4 seconds.

The BMW i4 electric Gran Coupe is based on a modified version of the CLAR platform which underpins the current generation of 3 Series and 4 Series. Accommodating battery packs of up to 80kWh capacity, an entry-level, rear-wheel-drive variant with a smaller battery will also be available however the exact specification will be revealed closer to the launch. The i4 will use BMW's new 8-generation iDrive operating system, which debuted with the BMW iX electric SUV. Housed in the new BMW Curved Display, the screen areas of the 12.3-inch information display and 14.9-inch control display merge together into a single unit.
