Australia legends Shane Warne has slammed England's "cautious and timid" brand of cricket and asked ex-England captain Michael Vaughan that 'what on earth is his team doing'.

Australia legend Shane Warne has lashed out at the "cautious and timid" brand of cricket England are playing in the first Test against India at Chepauk. In a series of tweets Warne said that England batted for "too long" in the first innings and they are missing the trick of winning Test matches by neither declaring nor scoring at a fast pace to make India bat soon.

The 51-year-old expressed utter disbelief after watching the tactics of Joe Root's side, who continued batting without showing any intent despite gaining a first innings of lead of 241. Warner added that England were playing with the attitude to "not lose the Test match", an approach in complete contrast to India's "courageous and brave cricket" in Australia recently.

Notably, England batted for over two days in the first innings and did not ask India to follow-on depite bundling the hosts for just 337 runs. A usual plan would have seen England scoring quickfire 150-200 odd runs and putting India to bat again but that did not turn out to be the case.

A frustarted Shane Warne even seeked help from former England captain Michael Vaughan. "What is going on with your cricket team ? What on Earth are they doing just letting the game drift," read his query.
